This issue of Commercial Article tells the story of Avriel Shull, a talented and flamboyant modernist underdog who began her practice in 1950s Indiana — presumably, a not overly welcoming place for an untrained, 23 year old, female artist who decided she could build houses. This feature continues our attempt to document Indiana’s design history by focussing on lesser-known figures and concepts.
