PARTNERS IN HOUSING DEVELOPMENT
BLUE TRIANGLE
This invitation was designed on the occasion of Partners’ renovation of the Blue Triangle building in downtown Indianapolis. Partners in Housing Development facilitates the restoration of neglected structures and transforms them into new residences for at-risk or marginalized individuals. This hand-made booklet served as an invitation to an event that marked the completion of a particularly extensive and lengthy project.
HOME LESS
This is the annual report for Partners in Housing Development. We attempted to summarized the philosophy of the entire organization through a single graphic device. Lifting the half cover alters the cover headline from HOME LESS to HOME. This report was honored by the Potlatch Paper Company in their annual report design competition.
PEAR TREE
PEAR TREE IDENTITY
The Pear Tree is an upscale Indianapolis gift store that specializes in fine linens, gifts and stationery. We were asked to create a simple identity that reflected the classic nature of the store as well as the owner’s philosophy toward design. The logo was applied to many items including signage, gift tags, invoices, stickers, ads and stationery.
PEASE / BRANNAN
PEASE / BRANNAN WEDDING INVITAITON
This invitation was designed for our friends Jennifer Pease and Michael Brannan. The simple card featured a hand-stitched bead as the binding and a delicate onion skin paper as an outer layer. The gingko leaf, a symbol significant to the couple, was the only imagery that they requested and became the “mark” of the wedding.
SIGMA THETA TAU
TALES FROM THE PAGER CHRONICLES
We designed this book cover for the publishing division of the nursing sorority Sigma Theta Tau. The book is a collection of offbeat stories about eccentric patients in a hospital who are all connected to a single nurse via her pager. The cover image is intended to depict the urgency and mystery that can almost become routine when working in a hospital.
STORYTELLING ARTS OF INDIANA
STORIES FROM THE HEARTLAND
We were approached by the Indiana Historical Society to create the cd packaging for their partner Storytelling Arts of Indiana. The result was this simple, but elegant design that puts the focus on the storytellers and their midwestern backgrounds. Photographer Greg Whitaker generously donated his images for use as illustrations in the design.
TU-LA
TU-LA IDENTITY
TU-LA was an extravagant gift and clothing boutique in Indianapolis. Working with the shop’s creative director, we developed an identity that was a reflection of the eccentric look and feel of the store’s interior. The identity features a collection of images provided by the creative director as well as additional found illustrations and handwriting samples. We designed an extensive collection of collateral materials that included multiple stickers, signage, assorted business cards, post cards, envelopes and sales forms.
TURKEYFEST
TURKEYFEST WEEKLY
This invitation was designed for our friend Amy Vaughan, hostess of Turkeyfest, her annual celebration of all things worth giving thanks for. As a devoted reader of US Weekly, we knew Ms. Vaughan would appreciate our appropriation of their look for the Turkeyfest crowd. She may not have appreciated the photo of her that we selected for the cover, but we loved it.
VISUAL PROFESSIONAL
VISUAL PROFESSIONAL SHOW BOOKLET
This promotional booklet was designed for Visual Professional, the clothing company created by designer and artist Candace Lorimer. Lorimer, who screen prints fabrics with her own designs, creates original garments that are based on historical shapes and silhouettes. This piece was offered at buying shows and was intended to convey a sense of what the clothing was like without actually depicting that many of the garments.
WALTHER CANCER INSTITUTE
HOPE
The theme of Hope was emphasized by written and photographed profiles of cancer survivors in this annual report. Walther Cancer Institute is an organization that provides funding to universities in an effort to eradicate the disease. The message that is emphasized here is that Hope is a central component of any recovery. The look is intended to have a clean, warm, almost literary quality that conveys a sense of stability and ultimately hope.
INSPIRATION
In an approach similar to the Hope annual report, the design of the Inspiration annual utilized strong portrait photography and profiles of cancer survivors to convey Walther’s goal of advancing cancer research and eradicating the disease in our lifetime. The look of this report is meant to be earthy, but very modern, allowing the photography and clean typography to convey the impact of the message.
INVEST IN SUCCESS
Invest in Success was the theme that was chosen for the Walther Cancer Institute’s four-year capital campaign. Opening with the Lance Armstrong quote “Many people are alive today because of the research by the Walther Cancer Institute,” this booklet sets the stage for the organization’s fundraising goals. Combining colorful diagrams and portraits of individuals that have benefitted from Walther’s assistance, this piece is the first step in their process of giving.
VISION / ACTION / DISCOVERY / TRANSFORMATION
This annual report sought to portray the chain of events and individuals that will lead to the eradication of cancer. The theme was introduced through a series of pictograms that were later reinforced with photographs of people in the Walther organization and those who benefit from the research it funds.
WHITE RIVER STATE PARK
BIKE IN
These promotional pieces were designed for the White River State Park’s inaugural Bike In event. Bike In is a two-day festival held in the White River State Park (the only urban state park in the country) that promotes the idea of traveling by bicycle in downtown Indianapolis. Working with Hetrick Communications, we created posters, bookmarks, ads and tickets that all introduced a dramatic Constructivist-inspired look for the event.
ZIONSVILLE REMEMBERS
ZIONSVILLE REMEMBERS T-SHIRT
This t-shirt design was created as a fund raising venture to benefit Alzheimer’s research and the care of Alzheimer’s patients. Organized by a group of concerned individuals in Zionsville, Indiana, the shirt was sold at events and through participating businesses. All proceeds benefitted the Alzheimer’s Association.
