HAMILTON COUNTY CONVENTION AND VISITORS BUREAU

TOWN SQUARES / URBAN FLAIR LOGO

This logo was created for on the occasion of the bureau’s move to a new office in the Arts and Design District of Carmel, Indiana. The logo marks a shift in focus to a combination of small town charm mixed with urban sophistication. The logo appears in many applications including an array of printed materials and bureau signage.

VISITORS CENTER

After taking over the storefront across the hall from their own offices, the HCCVB asked us to design the space to be a visitors center for tourists and people looking for information about the county. Following the look we had established for their identity and collateral pieces, we designed a space that reflected the historic nature of the bureau’s district, but also incorporated a contemporary palate and atmosphere. The center is used for the dissemination of tourism information and as a meeting place for small events and gatherings.

HERRON SCHOOL OF ART AND DESIGN

HERRON CHRONICLE

This book, the first comprehensive history of the school, was published on the occasion of Herron’s 100th anniversary. While celebrating the colorful history of the school, the book also serves as a record of every faculty member and student who graduated from Herron in its first 100 years. Expertly written and lavishly illustrated, the book is a testament to the quality of the institution.

HERRON SCHOOL OF ART AND DESIGN COLLATERAL

These simple promotional materials were designed to be adaptable to any number of applications: prospective student information packets, press releases, inter-office communications. Images were used to depict the atmosphere of the school, while bold type treatments are screened back and only become apparent when their silver ink is hit by direct light.

LET’S BE FRIENDS

This is a simple card that invites recipients to join the Friends of Herron organization. Friends of Herron provides support to the school and its programs through fundraising endeavors and volunteer opportunities. An H-shaped chipboard cover offers a tactile feature to an otherwise straightforward format. This is also the first official Commercial Artisan project following our transition from our original Antenna moniker.

WE MISS “U”

This postcard featuring a class picture montage from the Herron class of 1933, is an invitation for lapsed members of the Herron Alumni Association to return to the fold. The Alumni Association funds a wide variety of initiatives in support of Herron’s students, faculty and alumni.

HISTORIC LANDMARKS FOUNDATION OF INDIANA

EIGHTH WONDER PROGRAM AND INVITATION

Eighth Wonder was the title of an event that capped a massive ten year restoration of the West Baden Springs Hotel in West Baden, Indiana. The hotel and its grounds, originally constructed in 1902, are like something out of the Wizard of Oz. Centered around an enormous domed atrium, the hotel stood as the largest free-spanning dome in the world for many years. Legendary as a vacation spot for early twentieth century gangsters and movie stars, the structure had fallen into dangerous disrepair. We were asked to design an invitation and program for the event that would celebrate West Baden’s return to form as one of the world’s eight wonders.

HOUSE IN HARMONY

HOUSE IN HARMONY LOGO

We were asked to create a logo that reflects the philosophy of interior design company House in Harmony. They practice an integrated approach to design that reflects an individual’s style, but seeks to elevate it to a more refined level. This logo appeared in a wide array of applications that included signage, hang tags and corporate communications.

INDIANA ARTISAN

IDENTITY

This mark serves as Indiana’s version of a “Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval.” It is awarded to products of distinct quality that originate in the state, and can be used as a part of their promotional campaigns. It also appears on signage at select retail locations that present the best that Indiana has to offer.

INDIANAPOLIS CITY MARKET FOUNDATION

TO MARKET TO MARKET

This invitation package is for the Foundation’s 2007 black tie benefit To Market To Market — a long-dormant event that was resurrected on the occasion of the restoration of the historic Indianapolis City Market. This design is intended to reflect the look of classic produce packaging, but still remain modern in its approach. The invitation package was well-received and was honored by Neenah Paper in their design competition.

INDIANAPOLIS CIVIC THEATER

CIVIC LOGO

The Indianapolis Civic Theater is the longest continuously-operating community theater in the country. This logo simplifies the theater’s name and message to Civic, and places it in the context of the stage’s spotlight. In use for over a decade, this logo is one of our most visible designs.

INDIANAPOLIS MUSEUM OF ART

CROSSROADS OF AMERICAN SCULPTURE

This book was published on the occasion of the exhibition of the same name. The swan song for long-time IMA curator Holly Day, the book presents the sculptural work and stories of David Smith, George Rickey, John Chamberlain, Robert Indiana, William T. Wiley and Bruce Nauman, all artists with origins and connections in Indiana. The book seeks to depict how these connections contributed to the success of each of these major figures.

GARO ANTREASIAN: WRITTEN ON STONE

This is the catalogue raisonné of influential lithographer Garo Antreasian. Antreasian was a leading figure in the revival of lithography in post-World War II America. A one-time student and instructor at the John Herron School of Art in Indianapolis, Antreasian later went on to become the technical director and master printer of the Tamarind Lithography Workshop in Los Angeles. The IMA became the home to a complete collection of Antreasian’s prints now documented in this volume.

PAINTERS OF EDO JAPAN

This modest book was published on the occasion of the IMA’s acquisition of a collection of paintings from the Edo period (1615-1868) of Japanese history. These additions elevated the IMA’s collection to one of the preeminent bodies of Japanese art in any museum. This book was very popular and sold out it’s entire press run within months of its publication.

THE STORY OF THE INDIANAPOLIS MUSEUM OF ART

This book, produced in 1998, was a brief history of the museum and an overview of its significant collections. Special attention was placed on the acquisitions of the previous ten years, a very active and prolific era in terms of important new additions. The general appeal of the subject matter and the colorful presentation of so much beautiful art made this book very popular among museum visitors.

TURNER IN INDIANAPOLIS

The title of this book is an ironic nod to a series of other “Turner in . . .” books that have appeared over the years. Although he never had the pleasure of setting foot in Indianapolis himself, the work of J.M.W. Turner was well represented here in the collection of attorney Kurt F. Panzer. The paintings, prints and letters—the foremost private collection of Turner’s work—was bequeathed to the IMA upon Panzer’s death in 1979. Turner in Indianapolis presents the body of work in an academic, yet lavish production that reveals the importance of one of art’s most towering figures.

DEBORAH KELB, CPA

DEBORAH KELB IDENTITY

This is the graphic identity system for our accountant Deborah Kelb. Intended as a play on the familiar look of IRS forms, the identity had unintended results. Unsuspecting clients of Kelb’s would receive her correspondence and instinctively respond with panic and fear. After assuaging their concerns, most of Kelb’s clients appreciated the joke. We refer to this project as “the little job that could.” It has been recognized by the AIGA and Communication Arts in their design competitions, as well as being featured in other design-related publications.

LUNA MUSIC

SPACE COUPLE T-SHIRT

This is a t-shirt designed for Luna Music, an independent Indianapolis (indie Indy?) music store that the New York Times hails as one of the best in the country. This was one of a series that featured the Luna couple on a musical adventure. Here they are getting their groove on to some type of extra-terrestrial dub reggae.
